for School Board District 3
I am proud to announce my candidacy for the Hillsborough County School Board District 3 seat. As a fifth-generation resident of Hillsborough County, I have been actively volunteering in the community with public schools, youth organizations, and neighborhood groups as well as serving on many Hillsborough County appointed boards. I have proudly served on the Hillsborough County Planning Commission for the past eight years and was honored to be elected Chairman six times. Currently, I am the Vice-Chairman of the 2020 Hillsborough County Charter Review Board.
Growing up in northern Hillsborough County, I was fortunate to have been raised in a family with a father who served in the U.S. Air Force and mother who worked for Hillsborough County Public Schools as a teacher and principal. I attended public schools including Miles Elementary, Buchanan Middle and Chamberlain High School graduating in 1986. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Management from Tulane University and an MBA from Florida State University. My professional career began at the State of Florida Auditor General’s Office conducting school board audits, which included Hillsborough County. I then worked for a private accounting firm before joining Hillsborough County Aviation Authority in 1998. I am a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Internal Auditor, and have extensive experience in auditing, budgeting, risk management and safety.
I am running for School Board to promote my vision ‘Better Schools for a Brighter Future’. Since Hillsborough County is the 7th largest school district in the U.S. with more than 24,000 employees, 200,000 students, and a budget of approximately $3.3 billion, it is critical that our school system runs efficiently. Once elected, my priorities will be to ensure a high quality education for all students, a safe and secure school environment, and accountability and fiscal management.
I live in Carrollwood with my wife Brenda and our youngest son Jason, a student at Walker Middle Magnet School. Our two older children, Mitchell and Alexandra, are currently studying at Florida State University and the University of Florida.
